Breathe Less in Ontario

Make your ride home today a leisurely one. We're under "massive swath" of smog in southern Ontario.

On the Ontario Air Quality site, almost every city is either "moderate" or "poor" today. At 8:30 this morning, the yellow tinge was already evident over North York.

For cyclists, it's hard to follow the advice of avoiding strenuous activity, so we're left with trying to make our cycling as unhurried as possible.

Ride slowly. Coast often.

It sickens me (really!) that on the days when we could benefit the most from more people cycling, walking, or using other forms of active transportation, it's dangerous to do so because of the air quality.

All those ideas about driving bans, clean air corridors, etc..etc... sound better every time the air quality suffers.

Some big fans to blow the nasty air from the mid-west USA would help too.

Canadians cause more pollution per person than any other nationality, so we are in no position to point fingers.

I'll be coming back to ontario soon and I'll be savoring every day of your so-called "poor" days with strenuous trail rides...take what you guys have over what's here any day of the week.
