Police Still Favor Drivers over Riders...

I am so tired of this:

Today I was almost hit twice by a bad driver in a 'Hollywood Floors and Stairs' minivan.

First time, the van was indicating a right hand turn, from College up Ossington, I rode up to her left to continue West on Colllege- like a good cyclist should. But she decided to continue going straight, almost sideswiping me into Westbound traffic.

Then a few blocks West, she DIDN'T indicate and turned right up Dovercourt, cutting me off yet again. I called out to her to "Signal !" as I rode behind her, going North as well. She slams on the brakes, in the middle of the street and tells me to get the F**K off the road as I go to pass her on the drivers side...

Ok, so I was pissed by then. Already having ridden along College, the 'Bike Lane" riddled with illegally parked vehicles - I had lost my patience. I stopped and slapped her little side mirror as I told her I had every right to the road and she needs to learn to drive. So she began to HARASS me, THREATENED to kick my ass, taking photos of me as I walked my bike up the street. I thought I better call the cops, as she parked near my place cutting me off on the sidewalk, then followed me down the street again.

When she knew I was calling the police, she claimed I broke her mirror, which was already busted up before we 'met'.

I should have just rode away at that point.

When the cops finally came, one asked me how much pot I had been smoking. (!?)

I said "I don't touch the stuff." (True. I simply can't) and was pretty offended. He said something smelled funny. I had just gone swimming, my eyes may have been red, I wear essential oils and had grabbed a matcha green tea from the nearby cafe while waiting for them. I could see where this was going and regretted immediately, that I ever imagined they would be sympathetic to my cause. When I told them she threatened me, harassed me, followed me along the block in her van, cut me off at the sidewalk, took photos... He said anyone could take pictures of anyone.

"While threatening them?" I ask. I think context is rather important here!!

He says she was small, did I really feel threatened?

Oh I dunno.. I am am a woman myself, 5'3'' 115 lbs. SHE . WAS . IN . A . VAN!!!

Regardless, she ALLEGED that I broke her mirror. So I get Charged with Mischief, because I was honest and admitted to slapping it backwards.

But this shitty driver, this aggressive, ignorant, "Get off the Road" tough gal - gets off with nothing. No harassment. No threatening me with her vehicle. No Bad Driving charges. Nothing.

So the Lesson Learned?
The Cops are NOT around to protect us.

They're here to serve the one's - in the Drivers Seat.

What can we do about this?
Are there any Cyclist Friendly Lawyers here in T.O. like there is in Vancouver?
