Tax deduction for bicycle couriers
I spent much of last year working as a courier in Calgary. I know that there is a tax deduction in the form of a daily food allowance for rickshaw drivers, and bicycle and foot couriers allowed by the federal government. What I am less sure about is what that amount is. I was under the impression it started at $10 a handful of years ago but the allowance has risen since then. Due to my uncertainty I filed for 2008 at $15/day (nobody said boo, so I figure that wasn't out of line). I have heard somewhere that it is now $17.55/day worked. There is/was a lack of information on this topic on the Revenue Canada site and I hoping that someone might know on this forum.
Cheers,
Steve

If you want a pretty good answer you can ask Wayne Scott. He's the guy, now retired, that fought Revenue Canada for almost 20 years to get the tax credit. He lives in Toronto, sometimes frequents this forum and you can find him on facebook under scunyun or his real name.
Or you can also get a hold of the Toronto Courier Local 104. They should have those answers.
That information is posted on the TOBMA website but it is also on the TOBMA facebook page, you can find it there. join the facebook group :)

It's a flat rate per workday of $17.00 as of 08' I believe $17.55 is the most recent amount, but we have confirmation of $17. This is a receipt-less deduction, simply calculate the number of days worked and multiply by 17 to get the amount of your deduction.
That info is on http://www.tobma.com and on the TOBMA facebook page

It's $17.00 a day as of 08, $17.55 may be the new amount. Multiply the number of days worked by $17 and you have your deduction amount.
I found what I was lookin' for. Very handy.
Have fun riding.
