Best and worst hills in Toronto
BlogTO has a good post on the best and worst cycling hills in Toronto. It partly depends on whether you like hills or not, but some of these are just terrible if the traffic going uphill is bad. There list includes (with photos):
- Bayview Extension (north end)
- Brimley Road
- Glendon Campus Lower Parking Lot
- Hogg's Hollow
- Humber Valley near Old Mill
- Lawrence Avenue East
- Poplar Plains
- Pottery Road
- Redway Road (steepest at 20% grade!)
- Sunnybrook Park/Hospital
- Rattlesnake Point (actually by Milton)
Got any favorites or horror hills yourself?

I'm trying to figure out what a 'best' hill is. To me, the best hill only goes one way... down. :)
Old Mill.... nearly every time I ride for me.
Heading up east Old Finch, from the Rouge bridge. Quite scenic, actually....

Avenue Road is fun to speed down, but I rarely go up it.
Coming up Greenwood is unpleasant on the up - that railway bridge creates a nice dip right before you ascend.
Beechwood & Ellis Park both have a nice gentle rise until you round a bend that appears to suggest the road is levelling off. Silly fun for the uninitiated.
Westward across Britannia one is confronted with a wall of stone at Walkers Line. Upon surmounting that, one climbs leisurely, crossing Guelph line before noting telltale treetops poking over the horizon. As you begin to plumb the depths of that canyon you will become aware of another wall looming increasing large in your path. Turn north on Cedar Springs Rd for more fun.
A little further west Blenheim Rd out of Cambridge between Victoria Park and the cemetary seems to lengthen the ride considerably.
