Biking directions on Google Maps for Canadian cities coming soon
It appears that Google is expanding on their biking directions to a number of Canadian cities:
Cyclists will soon be able to use Google Maps for directions around Toronto and other Canadian cities.
At the Sustainable Mobility Conference in Ottawa Monday, Google announced that it will be introducing a Bike Directions feature to nine Canadian cities including Ottawa, Gatineau, Que., Waterloo, Ont., Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and Kelowna, B.C.
No specific release date has been given but the feature should be available in some cities later this week.
The Bike Directions feature has already been introduced in some U.S. cities, including San Francisco and Manhattan, and different routes are colour coded to give cyclists an idea of what to expect on their ride. Dark green lines indicate that the path is bike-only trail. Light green means it is a bike lane along a road and dashed green lines indicate a preferred route for cyclists but no designated bike lane.
Since we've already got Ride the City Toronto with their bike routes mapping and iPhone app, this will be the cherry on the top.

At least, the "green" zones... It's such a sad excuse.. maybe now somebody will be able to see what we're talking about when we need the bicycle lanes connected.
