Data Collection of Commuters
I'm interested in buttressing the awareness of just how many cyclists are out there. I don't have enough info for a blog post so I'm putting this in the forum as a way to start the conversation. If it's popular enough I may create a tool on here to help facilitate data collection.
I'm often down at Queen West and Bathurst and I'm always amazed of how many cyclists there are (and how little the space is dedicated to cyclists) on this stretch of road. Just how many cyclists I wasn't sure. Not until now.
Over 6 minutes 34 cyclists passed by me at 5:30pm, June 17, 2008, at Queen and Euclid. There was intermittent rain but none at the time of counting. That comes to 340 cyclists per hour (at least during rush hour).
Anyone else want to try this game? Just take 6 minutes, count all the cyclists that pass. Note the time, date, location and weather and post it here.

Cyclist Count: Jedburgh and Woburn
5:50 pm
June 24, 2008
Jedburgh and Woburn (Jedburgh is a recommended cyclist route that parallels Yonge)
Count: 4 cyclists in 6 minutes.
Comment: I think the number is usually higher than this, but for the sake of fair statistics, I'll include it here.

Cyclist Counts
6:30 pm,
August 3, 2008 at Augusta and Oxford in Kensington Market: 19 cyclists in 6 minutes.
6:45pm,
August 3, 2008 at College and Brunswick: 17 cyclists in 6 minutes.
How to count?
Just so we are comparing apples to apples, are the cyclist counts for one direction only, or for cyclists passing in both directions?
