Winter Lighting

Hey Folks,

I am looking for a bit of advice re winter lighting.

I've been riding in the winter for a few years now, and the combination of lights from MEC that I've tried have always left me wanting.

I need something with more power. I am just wondering if anyone has any experience rigging up one of these to their bikes, and if so, how was it?

I was thinking of getting one for the front, and one with a red gel for the back.

"one charge lasts for fifteen minutes"

Also looks very heavy. It has lead acid batteries

If you are serious, then get one or two Planet Bike 2W Blaze lights from MEC. They are the biggest bang for the buck right now.

MEC has higher powered systems, but they are pricey. The Blaze would still be in the category of a "Be seen" light, rather than a headlamp to be used in pitch dark away from streetlights, but the major issue is the shape of the beam (which is too narrow), rather than light output.

The PDW Radbot taillight is ridiculously bright and is a good deal at $17.50

Thanks for the insightful reply. That is definitely a lot brighter than the 1W light. I still think I will try to find something brighter.

I use the 2w Planetbike Blaze upfront & radbot in the rear. I ride fast and like to keep em both on steady mode so i'm easy to track, & cars don't write me off as a slow moving bike cuz my light is flashing.

Within the first week of getting the radbot, a scooter pulled alongside of me to say how well lit up to back of my bike was, and just last night a fellow cyclist ask me about the light in the front cuz he was impressed by its brightness.

I'm considering getting an extra blaze up front, but I'm not sure how much of a difference it'll make.

Anyway FWIW I'd highly recommend the Blaze+Radbot combo.
