Moving

in

I'll be moving in a couple of months, and would like to do as much of the move by bicycle as possible. I am pretty sure I've seen a write up about this somewhere in the "Toronto Cycling Blogohemidemisemisphere," but I can't find it. I did find this page on bike hacks: Move By Bike.

I was hoping to hear from someone who has tried this.

  • Is it a huge pain in the ass?
  • Is there a place to rent a heavy duty trailer? If so, do they rent a hitch or do you rent a whole bike / trailer combo?
  • What's the size and weight limit for items?

Also I've been thinking about buying a trailer of my own. Urbane has some for $250 or so I think.

Any advice would be welcome and greatly appreciated.

He wrote his caustic best recently about how this is more than a little 'holier than thou'. I wouldn't want to move more on a bike than I'd take on a vacation, because at best it'd be "a huge pain in the ass". I feel no guilt renting a van every couple of years to move when I never commute by auto. Besides, moving is already enough work, don't you think?

Anne T. moved just recently all her stuff with bikes. She even had everyone dress as pumpkins. Did a hilarious video that I cannot find right now.

Found it! Here is the link. It is really funny.

Take a look at Vic's photos from a move in Ottawa. They had some pretty sweet bikes and trailers.

I read about Tanya renting a trailer to pick up some stuff at Ikea. Does anyone know of places that rent trailers?

Thanks for the link. That's exactly what I was looking for.
