Temporary Don Valley Trail Detour

in

A section of the Don Valley Trail has been temporarily rerouted to facilitate the construction of the new West Don Lands stormwater treatment infrastructure system.

The Trail has been rerouted east of Cherry Street between the rail corridor and Lake Shore Boulevard. The portion of the trail parallel to the rail corridor has been closed until completion of construction in early 2013. The south loop to Cherry St and Lakeshore is open

There will be ongoing construction activity in the area so please exercise caution while using the trail. Thank you for your patience as we construct this vital system of infrastructure.

Is there a website where one can find the status of trail closures for the Don Valley Trail? I'm particularly interested in knowing when the construction south of Edwards Gardens will be finished... there aren't really any signs up that warn cyclists of the closures until you get to a bridge that is fenced off.

Not that I am aware of. The trails are closed for construction, storms and special events. The " Don trail system" is owned and operated by many different different groups. TRCA, Waterfront Toronto, Hydro, and several city departments. When the information is available, it can pop up anywhere. Information new trail openings are also random.

I wrote to Toronto Parks, here is the reply I got:

*Hi Karyn, thank you for the email, the reason the information is not on the City website is because the emergency repairs are being conducted by the Toronto Regional Conservation Authority (TRCA), they are the people responsible for that land.
They have posted large yellow signs at each end of the trail explaining that they are doing emergency sewer encasement repairs and that they are hoping to have the path opened before May 30th. Keep checking their posted signs for any updates

Thank you

I think the signs are at street level on Leslie, not really helpful if you're bombing along the trail, trying to get home from downtown and run into a fence...
