Biking from Toronto to Belleville / Ontario route maps

Hello biketo,

I'm planning on biking from Toronto to Belleville soon and am looking around for some route recommendations. As things stand I plan on taking highway 2 all the way.

Are there any other routes worth looking into? Does anyone know of an Ontario trail/bike route map available online or in print?

Thanks,
-Janek

Are you taking your time or making a few detours down to the various lake paths?
Check out www.waterfronttrail.org and click on the maps they have.
The toughest part is getting out of Toronto, it would be great if the Scarborough section was safer where you have to go along Kingston Rd.
Bike lanes would be a good idea here when they upgrade that street.

Hi Janek,

Definitely check the Waterfront Trail maps.

The route does, however, have a tendency to meander alot, so there are some sections you might want to skip and just follow the highway or some of the other roads.

However, if you simply follow Highway 2 I think you'll miss out on some of the nicest scenery along the way.

Cutting down through Prince Edward County (Picton, etc.) is really nice too. You can follow Highway 33, or some really nice sideroads. The free ferry at the eastern end is a nice touch.

Also...check Brian Hedney's website for some good route advice along there.

Forgot to mention....if you want to skip Scarborough, you can hop the GO train out to Rouge or Pickering station. The ride from there on is quite nice.
