riding into orangeville
recently i found that a friend has a nice spot near orangeville and i was thinking of riding in rather than transiting in.
wondering if anyone knows the merits / liabilities of riding from brampton or newmarket.
and wondering if there are any profound insights about route on either of those. must see. don't bother. that sort of thing.
*they are nowhere near each other, but both have go train stations. and so for a small fee, at non-peak hours, i could spend my time and energy riding in the nice part, instead of riding through the GTA to get away. i'm planning this as a recreation thing, not a mission. so if i ride 80k, that's fine. i'd just rather not do it through suburbs if i have the option. i think there's a lot of suburb between here and there or there. and then the nice part, approaching orangeville.

I used a route from Brampton towards Orangeville as a training run for years. Not the most direct route but has some nice scenery and has some climbs to it.
You want to hook up with Creditview, take it north to Old Baseline Rd. Go west to Mississauga Rd. When you hit Belfountain follow the signs into the Forks of the Credit. There is a fast descent and an "almost" switchback before you start riding along the Credit River. Then look for McClaren and head north. Then east on Charleston to head north on Willoughby into Orangeville.
Ideally you want to get out at the Mt.Pleasant Go station as Creditview is only a few hundred metres away. Until you are north of Mayfield Rd be prepared to deal with a lot of fast cars who's drivers cannot read speed limit signs.
From Mayfield Rd to Belfoutain you are looking at about an hours ride. There is a wickedly fast descent into Cheltenham followed by a long climb out of it.
Good and popular route above... just a warning.. credit view is in real bad shape between old school and king.
I suggest staying in the right tire-track up those roads since the shoulders are crumbling away(credit vew) and wearing something hi-viz... impatient motorists will unsafely lanesplit with you at 80km/h even with oncoming traffic. Be sure to listen and make sure you hear them slow down and don't do anything sudden like breath when douchebag motorist(98-05 black jetta tdi w/ tinted windows partial plate ampr 3??) nearly hits you. The GO bus goes to orangeville you know...so you have options if you don't have some sort of psychological disorder like i do.
There is one stop in cheltenham and one stop in belfountain for drinks and a shot at a restroom.
Stay to the right after belfountain, you want forks of the credit rd not missisauga rd
Some the narrowest lane/high speed bits where actually in orangeville. Of course I made the mistake of reaching orangeville around rush hour. The caledon trail is perfect for cycling, use it if you can....I still have dreams of a trail like that going across the downtown core. Other than that GO buses will probably make your life easier.
