Cycling Interests

I bike pretty much every day between April and November, and while there are probably other issues that should more effectively get me interested in city politics -- issues with more direct examples of actual cruelty that could be stopped -- I'd have to say that nothing gets me going like bike politics. I'd rather bike around Toronto thinking about nice things, but a number of little prompts (driver behaviour, street design, unnecessarily dangerous things I'm expected to do in order to obey the law) usually turn my rides into a kind of inner court case where I'm arguing with imaginary opponents of the Complete Streets initiative. I think it's hard to bike regularly in Toronto without acquiring the opinion that changes in favour of bicycles are also changes that will improve this city more generally. Also, I just spent time in both Amsterdam and Copenhagen and returned home with all the obvious conclusions...
