The Warrington Cycle Campaign has been quite effective in pointing out some of the best cycling facilities in the U.K. Just look at how this particular facility in Essex County that helps people increase their aerobic exercise by "requiring seven dismounts within a distance of 380 yards".

Please preview their catalog of amazingly well thought out bike facilities.

Thanks to StreetFilms and David Byrne's "How New Yorkers Ride Bikes" presentation as part of the New Yorker Festival for this great find.

I received this email from Darren Stehr:

Cyclists,

Canada Post's Ombudsman has determined that their should be an investigation into Canada Post's widespread practice of parking its vehicles in bicycle lanes. This practice is contrary to their own Code of Conduct and various laws.

I anticipate that Canada Post will respond in one of the two following ways,

1) Continue to flaunt the safety of cyclists. This would require the City to keep to its position of viewing the problem with its blind eye, although it have to do it "officially" .

or

2) Immediately stop parking in the bike lanes and demand that the City ensures that Canada Post's competitors are forced to do the same.

In either case the City, which has clearly stated that parking in the bike lanes endangers cyclists, will be forced to act.

Bike lanes are nothing except a strip of pavement with a white stripe unless they are properly enforced. The City is big on telling us about all of the bike lanes it intends to install, it is all meaningless unless bike lanes are kept clear. The Chair of the Toronto Cycling Advisory Committee has already shown his indifference to the matter by simply supplying the same old fluff when asked to act.

One excuse expected to be heard from Canada Post is that forcing drivers to find parking spots will increase delivery times and costs for businesses. Show me a bike lane and I will show you a parking spot nearby, sometimes it will be even closer than the bike lane.

Please help. Continue to post photos of Canada Post parked in the bike lane at
