Long established bike store, Duke's Cycle, burned down early this morning along with a number of other businesses and homes near Queen West and Bathurst. The massive 6-alarm blaze seems to have made quick work of the building. The Star article mentions that residents are being evacuated and that no injuries have been reported.
For the interests of this blog, we'd be interested in knowing what will happen to Duke's - rebuild, retire, relocate?

The City has recently reported a secure Bike Station will be opening up this year at Union Station:
Opening July 2008, Toronto will see its first ever Bike Station to be housed in Union Station in the York Street Teamway. There will be secure, covered parking spaces for 200+ bicycles, signed out on a membership basis. There is no waiting list as yet but when one becomes available, Cyclometer will let you know.
That was fast! I had first heard last year the city was looking into the bike station idea for the Union Station revitalization, which has delayed and delayed. Somehow the cycling staff were able to deftly maneuver the bureaucracy and get it approved before the redesign. Now I just need an excuse to use Union Station.
