Miscarriage of Justice

Tue, 05/25/2010 - 13:58

If the case was so weak, why avoid a trial? He could easily have acquit himself and cleared his name to the public, no?

This is a despicable miscarriage of justice.

We all know what this was, because we've seen the video. Bryant threw the first punch and then committed vehicular manslaughter when the victim attempted to detain Mr. Bryant.

I suggest Bryan leave this province permanently, if not the country. If he thinks he can circumvent the laws of our nation, he has no right to be a Canadian citizen.

The right decision to drop the charges

"If the case was so weak, why avoid a trial? He could easily have acquit himself and cleared his name to the public, no?"

No, it would be irresponsible for a prosecutor to proceed with a case that he/she doesn't believe has a chance of success. It's also extremely unfair to the accused and a waste of time and money for the wider society. Otherwise, by what you're suggesting, there ought to be charges and a court case for every incident police investigate, regardless of whether charges are clearly warranted or the case is strong enough, so that the matter can be cleared to the public. That's not how it works and rightly so.

Bryant not going to trial

Why do cyclists have to have knee jerk reactions to everything. I cycle much more than I drive and I see crazy cyclists all the time. I see a lot of motoring jerks as well.
Why in every car/auto altercation is it assumed the motorist is wrong? I know as a heavier and potentially more dangerous vehicle, the onus is on the driver to be more careful but everything I've seen suggests that Bryant would have been found innocent.

Why rake the justice system over the coals for not prosecuting him? If the system went after a cyclist we'd all be screaming that he not be prosecuted.

Let's have a bit of common sense here. Not all cyclists are always right.

Bryant walks because he had connections

This is not a knee jerk reaction this rage about injustice. Mr Freedman you should go back and watch the video and do a little research. Not from the press that has never been forthcoming about the facts but with your own eyes. The youtube video speaks volumes. The probability of Bryants car stalling because he used the brakes is ridiculous. He ran down Allan pure and simple. Bryant got off because he had money and prestige nothing else. He is a murderer regardless of the lies that flood from his mouth like bile. This is why we are outraged, this is why we see that justice has failed us

Apparently the "prosecutor" donated to the liberal party

Tue, 05/25/2010 - 16:05

I just came across this - apparently Richard Peck, the person appointed to "defend" Sheppard has made donation to the Liberal party (where Bryant served):

http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Special+prosecutors+donated+much/299316...

Why was this never brought up by the media? Why isn't there any coverage of the youtube video (which originally aired on CityPulse but was never discussed in any detail in their news)?

vigil this evening

Tue, 05/25/2010 - 16:19

The association is planning a vigil at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday along Bloor St. W., just east of Avenue Rd., where Sheppard died.

The video should be the header for this site, not a pretty bike.

We will never know...

Because of the way this was handled - trial of the victim who cannot defend himself, all outside of court where the accused is never cross-examined - everything Bryant said has been taken at face value, including the evidence HE submitted to the prosecution. In other words, there has been no scrutiny by anyone of the evidence which the crown simply accepted as true. The accused's attorney gave her case documents to the crown as a 'courtesy' not as a point of law: Submitting photoshoped images of the victim without validation is not even illegal simply because there was no trial. And the media has the arrogance to say that the legal system worked - it was never engaged and for some very strategic reasons by someone with enough resources to completely subvert it. He killed another human being and does not want to suffer the consequences.
