We've gone backwards

Yes, Toronto is ready for this.

I remember well those summers when Yonge Street was closed to car traffic in the 1970's. We've gone backwards over the last 30 years. Not only are we ready for this, but its about time we built on what we've done before.

Toronto's Medical Officer of Health says that car pollution kills 400 people in Toronto every year. If a terrorist gang were to shoot 400 people every year, the government would take steps to stop them. Why are car drivers not treated the same way?

Get ready!

For sure Toronto will have a Ciclovia soon. If NYC can pull this off - the world is not far behind. It is just weird that NYC is now setting the pace for such improvements.

WORLD CLASS CITY!!

Mon, 08/11/2008 - 13:54

Sure we're ready. You'll see it in two to five years, after it's become an institution in Bogota, NY, London, Tokyo... Seattle and Vancouver. Then we will copy it... er... inaugurate it in Toronto. When the mayor opens it, it will show that Toronto is a 'world-class-city'!

'world-class-city'

Yes, 'world-class-city' is meant to be sarcastic whenever it is inside single quotation marks, or applied to Toronto.

Fantastic

So inspiring. And what a great coalition of community groups that made it happen and brought the mayor along with them. Thanks for posting, Tino.
