The Globe and Mail got a head start on this story. Tuesday morning the bike union will be launched with the help of Mayor Miller.

Toronto has put bikes on the back burner, Yvonne Bambrick, one of the group's co-ordinators, said. "Our first and most clear objective is to get the city to put in place all the things they voted on in the bike plan that was passed in 2001," she said. "It's stagnated for far too long now."

The launch will be at 9 am tomorrow morning down at City Hall. Give your support then and on the website by signing up as a member, a volunteer, or a supporter. Help us get some more bike lanes, paths, post and rings, bike-friendly streets, bike insurance, bikesharing, traffic calming, congestion charges, carbon tax and so on (actually this is my own personal wish list, not sure if the bike union will help with all of it).

Ride of Silence 2008
The Sixth Annual Ride of Silence will commence May 21st 2008. The starting point will be the south east corner of Spadina and Bloor. The ride is to commemorate the deaths of cyclists around the world. The ride will leave at 7:00 pm and proceed at a yet to be determined route throughout the city in silence. For more information contact Derek Chadbourne at goomann@gmail.com

Ride Report:

About 20 cyclists braved a cold and soggy evening to ride in memory of those we loved and lost on the roads of Canada while they rode their bikes. After a slow procession through uptown and downtown we ended the ride at the peace garden at city hall for a minute of silence and words of comfort. Thank you to all those who rode with me.
Special thanks to Derek and Jun for organizing the event.
