Justin LaFontaine has sent me some more photos of the fancy Folding Bike rides organized by himself and other foldie friends on Bay Street and other moneyed areas. The purpose of the rides is to show people that folding bikes are the perfect key to a multi-modal world - where people can easily transition from house to folding bike to Go Train to TTC to folding bike and office. All without getting the suit dirty or mussing the hair (well only a little).

We'll keep you posted on the next ride so you can get your suit or dress dry cleaned in time. Business executives are welcome!

Give your input on the revitalization of Union Station at the Open House, November 14th, from 12:30 to 6:30pm in the Great Hall, Union Station.

Mayor David Miller and Councillors are hosting an open house to showcase the preferred approach for Union Station's revitalization. The public is encouraged to visit Union Station to view materials, speak with staff and fill out a questionnaire with their ideas.

Union Station is undergoing some major renovations. This is a good time to provide input on cycling facilities at the station. There's been 'talk' about providing room for a "bike station" (like Chicago's bike station - god, what an amazing concept!) since the renovation of Union Station should focus on it as a multi-modal transportation hub. I cannot, however, find any mention of any bike station in the official report. The bike station idea has just been floating around and needs some people to help make it more concrete.

I suppose there are other important cycling-related changes to be considered, including: accessibility for passengers traveling with bikes and secure bike parking for those wanting to leave their bike at the station.

You can read up on it in the master plan (just don't download the really large pdf with all the chapters).

This is a reminder to you dear Toronto residents and cyclists to get out and make deputations to the City of Toronto's Budget Committee. BikeToronto explains how the process works. The city also has a news release describing the process. The deadline for spoken deputations has passed, but you can still send a letter or email to your councillor, or send a written presentation to the Budget Committee. Email: buc@toronto.ca .

Note that the Toronto Cycling Advisory Committee is not meeting again before the capital budget comes before council so it is vitally important for individuals to come forward and explain why the city should spend money on cycling. To have input into the process you can write to the committee, speak in person to the committee or write your councillor.
